An alarming number of scientific papers contain Excel errors

Washington Post這篇報道相當值得留意。

報道指由澳洲研究員撰寫的論文《Gene name errors are widespread in the scientific literature》顯示,檢查過約3600篇研究基因的科學論文及其數據資料中,大約五分一的數據都出現錯誤,而原因是Excel會將個別字句自動轉換成日期。

例如一組基因名為「Septin 2」,學者整理數據時通常會將之簡稱為「SEPT2」,Excel就會自動將之轉為「9月2日」。

而一個相當麻煩的情況,是Excel內沒有方法禁止這自動轉換,必定要人手將相關的格式轉回「Text」,令這個錯誤出現的機率相當高。

  1. 唔係喎, 係「SEPT2」前面加個「’ 」咪得囉~
    即係「’SEPT2」, 咁樣excel 就唔會自動轉format…
