多個媒體在1月24日報道,它們取得世銀總裁金墉向員工發放的電郵,指世銀行的首席經濟師Paul Romer已經請辭,並已即時離職回歸其New York University 教職。

FT報道引述世銀員工指,內部相當不滿Romer的管理手法,認為他不顧及員工的感受。

在Romer任職的15個月期間就有多次與其他世銀官員衝突的情況。他曾就世銀的報告用字及與讀者溝育有欠清䀿而多次批評員工,並限制員工在報告文件中使用「and」的次數;上星期他接受WSJ訪問,指過去幾年世銀行的Doing Business排名的計算方法更變,有刻意針對智利政府之疑;但及後又在網誌收回講法,指自己並非認為報告計法更變有問題,只是認為在更改計法之時要向外界更清楚交待。

金墉在向員工發放的電郵中指,Romer為傑出的經濟學者,具有創見;他欣賞Romer的真誠及直率,並相信Romer對在這個情況下離任感到可惜。
